Microneedling Q & A

  • What is microneedling?

Microneedling uses a device equipped with dozens of tiny needles to prick micro holes into the surface of your skin. This minimally invasive treatment triggers the production of new collagen, a skin-strengthening protein, and the growth of new cells. The result is skin that appears more youthful.

At LUX Dermatology, our providers offer microneedling with PRP, platelet-rich plasma. PRP is derived from your own blood. The blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from its other parts.

Platelets contain tremendous healing and growth factors. When used in combination with microneedling, the PRP boosts your skin’s ability to repair and restore itself.

  • Am I a candidate for microneedling?

If you want to boost your skin’s appearance but aren’t ready for surgery or other invasive procedures, microneedling is for you.

Our LUX Dermatology provider will recommend microneedling if you have complaints about the following:

    ● Age spots.

    ● Acne scars.

    ● Large pores.

    ● Uneven skin tone.

    ● Wrinkles and fine line.

Microneedling can be combined with other skin treatments to boost your skin’s look and glow.

  • When will I see the benefits of microneedling?

In the days following your microneedling treatment, you’ll notice that your skin has a brighter, more glowing appearance. Deeper results show up over time as your body starts to produce more collagen in response to the micro-wounds and the growth factors applied through PRP.

The best results usually show up within four weeks of your treatment. If you continue a quality skin care regimen and healthy diet during the weeks following microneedling, you’ll get the best results and maintain them longer.

Some people benefit from more than one microneedling treatment. Talk to your provider about a customized treatment plan that will help you get your desired results.

  • What is recovery from microneedling like?

You can experience redness, slight bleeding, and mild bruising following a microneedling session. You can choose to lay low for a few days to let these side effects get better, but you don’t need to cut out your normal activities if you don’t want to.
